WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE FARMING?

In the simplest terms, sustainable agriculture is the production of food, fiber, or other plant or animal products using farming techniques that protect the environment, public health, human communities, and animal welfare. This form of agriculture enables us to produce healthful food without compromising future generations’ ability to do the same.

Sustainable farmers and ranchers treat animals with care and respect, implementing livestock husbandry practices that protect animals’ health and well being. By raising livestock on pasture, these farmers enable their animals to move freely, engage in instinctive behaviors, consume a natural diet, and avoid the stress and illness associated with confinement.

Keener Farm is a CSA that provides grass-fed beef, pastured chicken and eggs, and choice cuts of pork, sausage & bacon from pigs farrowed in a wood lot. Our 160-acre farm has 50 acres of old-growth forest and 100 acres of tillable farmland that we are constantly converting into pasture for cattle and chickens. Keener Farm is local, responsibly raised meats from healthy hormone-free animals and we are proud to be part of the ever expanding sustainable farming movement in Ohio.
